Barbora Krejcikova accused Tennis Channel of unprofessional commentary during the recently concluded WTA Finals. Krejcikova failed to reach the final but along with the disappointment, she was miffed about the comments about her appearance made on Tennis Channel.

During her campaign in Riyadh, journalists Jon Wertheim, Steve Weissman, and Tracy Austin were discussing Krejcikova’s semifinal match against Qinwen Zheng. Wertheim made a controversial comment about Krejcikova’s forehead, calling it ‘eighthead’.

You might have heard about the recent comments made on Tennis Channel during the WTA Finals coverage that focused on my appearance rather than my performance. As an athlete who has dedicated herself to this sport, it was disappointing to see this type of unprofessional commentary.

When the clip of Wertheim’s comment surfaced on social media, fans heavily criticized him. They are convinced that journalists like Wertheim have made many such disrespectful remarks about players. Even Krejcikova is aware of that but this time, she did not hold herself back as she demanded respect.

This isn’t the first time something like this is happening in sports world. I’ve often chosen not to speak up, but I believe it’s time to address the need for respect and professionalism in sports media. These moments distract from the true essence of sport and the dedication all athletes bring to the field. I love tennis deeply, and I want to see it represented in a way that honors the commitment we make to compete at this level.

Here’s how Barbora Krejcikova performed during WTA Finals

Her win also denied, Swiatek, who was the defending champion, a chance to go for the trophy again. Krejcikova reached the semifinals at WTA Finals for the first time but Qinwen Zheng denied her the chance to win her first title as she defeated the 28-year-old 6-3, 7-5.

Krejcikova however, has won the doubles title at WTA Finals. She and Katerina Siniakova defeated the pair of  Hsieh Su-wei and Elise Mertens in the final in 2021. Krejcikova is a two-time Grand Slam singles champion and has lifted the doubles and mixed doubles major titles seven and three times respectively.
