Right after witnessing a thrilling semifinal clash between Italy’s Jasmine Paolini and Croatia’s Donna Vekic, tennis fans saw another nail-biting match on the Centre Court between Elena Rybakina and Barbora Krejcikova on Thursday (July 11). All four players fought tooth and nail to grab a place in the final but in the end, Paolini and Krejcikova were able to achieve that.
Elena Rybakina won the first set 6-3 but Krejcikova fought hard in the second set to level the scores. Rybakina was just not ready to give the points but eventually, Krejcikova came on top to win it 6-3.

The decider was no different as both tried to control the momentum. But Rybakina made a lot of errors owing to which she lost the upper hand for the first time in the third set. And when the points read 4-3, there was no looking back for Krejcikova as she won the next two games and eventually the match with a scoreline of 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Both Rybakina and Krejcikova are Grand Slam champions. Rybakina’s first major title came at Wimbledon in 2022, while Krejcikova lifted the 2021 French Open trophy.
Barbora Krejcikova proud of her game after she capitalizes on her lead
Barbora Krejcikova did what Jasmine Paolini did a few hours ago. Both the players lost the first set but won the match.

It’s unbelievable. A lot of joy, a lot of emotions, a lot of relief. I’m super proud of my game. I was 0-4 [in the first set], I was happy to win my first game, I was trying to fight for every ball, and in the second set, I was getting my momentum. When I broke her I was in the zone and I didn’t want to leave the zone.Barbora Krejcikova said after the match
Paolini, who played her first French Open final last month and lost to World No.1 Iga Swiatek, has advanced to her second summit clash with a thumping win over Donna Vekic with scores of 2-6, 6-4, 7-6(10-8). This made the Italian the first woman from her country to reach the final at the SW19.
The 28-year-old Paolini, seeded seventh at this Wimbledon, is also the second woman after Serena Williams to reach the final of Roland Garros and Wimbledon in the same year. The 23-time Grand Slam champion achieved the feat in 2015.
Krejcikova has met Paolini just once on the WTA Tour- the 2018 Qualifying Round 1 which she won easily.
