Barcelona manager, Hansi Flick, expressed his frustration against the match officials and the VAR after Barcelona suffered a 1-0 loss against Real Sociedad at the San Sabastian. Robert Lewandowski‘s goal was chalked off after VAR ruled him to be offside, but replays showed that the Polish striker was not in an offside position and that VAR might have mistaken the defender’s boots as Lewandowski’s.
At the post-match press conference, Flick said that he had informed the on-field referee that the decision from VAR was wrong, but he accepted that it was not the mistake of the on-field referee. He wasn’t angry after the decision, but the goal at the start could have changed the game for the Catalan club, and they could have gone on to win the match.

“But we have to accept it, we shouldn't blame the referee because we are all human and make mistakes… today was a big mistake”. pic.twitter.com/9s8ae1vOQr
Flick went on to add that he had seen the pictures, and he knows that the goal should have been valid. However, he and his team had to accept the situation and move on.
Hansi Flick takes responsibility for loss against Sociedad
If Barcelona had gone on to win the game in San Sebastián, they would have been nine points clear of Real Madrid at the top of the table. However, with their second loss in La Liga, Barcelona head into the international break with a six-point lead over Madrid, who have a game in hand.
Flick accepted that they should have played better despite the mistake from the referee. He stated that his team played good only in the first 15 minutes of the match.
Flick also mentioned that Barcelona struggled to link up in the final third and failed to create any meaningful goal-scoring opportunities. They didn’t register a single shot on target throughout the game. The Catalan club now has 33 points from 13 games, having won 11 and lost two. They are set to face Celta Vigo away in their next match.
