‘Desperate’ FC Barcelona set to make move for Juventus star Federico Chiesa

Spanish giants FC Barcelona have struggled to realize most of their summer transfer targets, with the Catalans only bringing in Dani Olmo from RB Leipzig. As Nico Williams‘ deal fell through, Barcelona moved for AC Milan forward Rafael Leao. However, after all doors have seemingly closed on Joan Laporta and Barcelona, the club are now looking to sign Juventus star Federico Chiesa.
As per reports, the Italian outfit are actively looking for ways to offload the player. The 26-year-old has entered the final year of his contract, with the deal expiring at the end of the season. His situation at the club has deteriorated so far that new manager Thiago Motta has not included the forward in his plans.
That being said, this may be for financial reasons rather than it being tactical. Juventus are willing to sell the player for a rather ‘discounted’ price of €15 million, compared to the whopping €60 million they purchased him for.
Even if the transfer price is met by the Blaugrana, his salary demands may pose a problem. Chiesa currently earns around €5 million per season and is reportedly looking to increase his salary to at least €7 million.
Barcelona sporting director claims club is ‘not done’ in transfer market
Amidst all the confusion and uncertainty regarding transfers at FC Barcelona, sporting director Deco claimed that the club are not yet done in the market. In a recent interaction with a fan, Deco claimed that there will be more signings/departments before the transfer window closes roughly two weeks from now.
To begin with, the club have received three official offers for outbound defender Mikayil Faye. The promising 20-year-old is looking for a way out of the club after Hansi Flick made it clear that he has no room for the youngster in his plans. Lille, Rennes and PSV have all come forward with proposals for the center-back, with all offers involving a sell-on and buy-back clause.
Joao Cancelo being more likely to rejoin Man City coupled with the departure of Sergi Roberto has made the club eye Olympic Gold medalist Marc Pubill. The 21-year-old currently plies his trade with Segunda Division club UD Almeria and operates from the position of right-back. Despite his importance to the squad, Almeria’s relegation may play a huge role in the player’s departure. He will be available for a fee in the region of €20 million.
