Barcelona midfielder Philippe Coutinho set to be in the sidelines for a long time following requirement of surgery to knee
The gifted midfielder couldn’t complete the match after having been brought on in the 66th minute as a substitute against Eibar. Barcelona later confirmed that it was a lateral meniscus in his left knee that is the source of his injury. The problems for the Brazilian is still continuing and it doesn’t look like it is going to be abated anytime soon.
The move from Liverpool to Barcelona hasn’t worked out well
Back in January Liverpool were forced to sell Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona after the player’s antics and the club’s offer of €142 million. No club would want to miss out an offer like that despite the fondness of the player they have. So Philippe Coutinho was sold in the January 2018 transfer window to Barcelona and Liverpool signed Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker in subsequent transfer windows.
The move has been only one-sided as Philippe Coutinho hasn’t had the same influence he had over Liverpool with Barcelona. Meanwhile Liverpool signed a defender and goalkeeper who have gone on to become world-class players. Liverpool has been the only ones to benefit from this deal as Coutinho hasn’t been able to play in his natural position for Barcelona. His position is held by Lionel Messi and therefore there cannot be two free roaming playmakers in a team. Therefore Philippe Coutinho has been comprised and has been forced to play out of position.
A loan move to Bayern Munich didn’t work too good for him and at the end of the loan period Bayern Munich didn’t renew his contract. Now he is at Barcelona again and has played 14 times for them with a return of three goals and two assists. Clearly his time hasn’t worked out there and it is reported that he is set to miss out on 4 months of play time. This isn’t good for Barcelona as Ansu Fati is also injured and the options are decreasing for Barcelona in attack.
