- Jannik Sinner won the Monte-Carlo Masters, dethroning Carlos Alcaraz from the No.1 ranking.
- Carlos Alcaraz must win the Barcelona Open to reclaim the No.1 position, defending 330 points from last year.
- The Barcelona Open runs from April 13 to April 19, 2026, with a total prize pool of $3,474,432.
The Monte-Carlo Masters concluded on Sunday (April 12) and saw Jannik Sinner stop Carlos Alcaraz from defending his title as well as remove the Spaniard from the No.1 ranking spot. The victory made him only the second man in the history of the Masters 1000 to win the Indian Wells Masters, Miami Open, and the Monte-Carlo Masters in the same calendar year after Novak Djokovic.
Although Sinner successfully dethroned Alcaraz, the No.1 rankings battle is not at all over yet. The four-time Grand Slam champion has a lead of only 110 points, and Alcaraz will be defending 330 points in Barcelona as he reached the final last year.
If the World No.2 wins the ATP 500 event on his home soil, he will reclaim his position from the 24-year-old on April 20. Only the title will make Alcaraz the No.1 player once again, or else he will remain in the second spot.
Apart from Alcaraz, the other seeded players in the draw are Lorenzo Musetti, Alex de Minaur, Karen Khachanov, Andrey Rublev, Cameron Norrie, and Arthur Fils. Sixth seed Valentin Vacherot, who scripted history in Monte Carlo by becoming the first local player to reach the semifinals, has pulled out of the Barcelona Open. Felix Auger-Aliassime will also not be playing.
In the 32-player draw, six players qualified for the main draw, while three of them are wild-card entrants. Holger Rune is the reigning champion, but he has not competed since withdrawing from his semifinal match against Ugo Humbert at the 2025 Stockholm Open due to an Achilles tendon injury. The three wild card entrants are: Rafael Jodar, Martin Landaluce, and Stan Wawrinka.

The record for most Barcelona Open titles belongs to the legendary Rafael Nadal. The King of Clay won 12 titles and also holds the record for most match wins (67). The last time Nadal won the trophy was in 2021 at the age of 34, and it made him the oldest player in the history of the tournament to win the title.
Carlos Alcaraz is the last home champion, winning in 2023 by defeating two-time Grand Slam finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas. After the Monte-Carlo Masters, the 22-year-old now has 3,330 points to defend on the remaining clay-court events.
Last year on the clay swing, although he lost the Barcelona Open, he lifted the title in Monte Carlo against Lorenzo Musetti and beat Jannik Sinner in the finals of the Italian Open and the French Open.
