Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo has reported that Serie A giants remained interested in signing the FC Barcelona centre-back, Ronald Araujo, in the ongoing winter transfer window. They are looking for a quality defender in the market, and Araujo has caught their attention. However, Joan Laporta and Co. have rejected the opening bid from the Old Lady.
Araujo has grown to become one of the best defenders in the world. The Uruguayan is strong, has the height and so is good in the air, boasts a tremendous pace, and hence can trackback easily. The only downside to him is that he is not good with the ball at his feet and does not have ball-playing defender skills.
The Uruguayan has been a constant presence in the playing XI since he was picked up in the first team but has barely played his part in the team this season. This is because he missed significant time being sidelined by an injury.
Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez have been the defensive pair in his absence and have been solid this season. So, reports have revealed that Araujo is not happy with being the backup for now and wants to find a new club to play regularly.
The quality that Araujo possesses will not let him be without the interest of many clubs. Juventus are the most likely club to get his signature, as they have pushed for a deal. The Old Lady have entered the transfer market looking for a centre-back after the season-ending injury to their defender, Gleison Bremer.
How much does Barcelona want for Ronald Araujo?
Barca have rejected the opening bid from the Serie A giants. Araujo is just 25 years old and is their best centre-back. Hence, Barcelona won’t be accepting anything for less than €70 million for their Uruguayan defender if they place him on the transfer market.
If the Catalan club receives a fee of €70 million for Araujo, that will be gold for them given their financial issues, even if they are going to lose one of the best defenders in the world. However, it is not clear whether the Serie A club will match the price tag set by Barca.
The upcoming days will reveal where the situation finally takes a turn. For now, Barcelona will be still looking to hold on to their defender and make sure that he agrees on a new deal with the club. Only time will tell what happens finally.
