5-1 read the final score line as Barcelona showed no mercy to their opponents in La Liga following the International break. The Blaugrana established a three-point lead at the top of La Liga as they punished Sevilla on Sunday night. Hansi Flick and co. have Robert Lewandowski and Pablo Torre to thank for the emphatic result as midfield prodigy Gavi made his return from an ACL injury.

Barcelona went straight to business from kick-off as Orjan Nyland was put to the test by Barca forwards. Raphinha was fouled inside the penalty area, following which Robert Lewandowski comfortably found the net in the 24th minute. This was followed by a screamer from Pedri, who found the top right corner from a Lamine Yamal assist.

Ansu Fati’s header from point blank range was also spectacularly saved by Nyland. While Sevilla got a consolation goal through Stanis Idumbo, they also had a goal disallowed in the second half for offside.

Barcelona honor Gavi as player makes return from ACL injury

Barcelona missed one of their best midfielders for almost a year as Gavi was sidelined with an ACL tear. The 20-year-old has been in recovery ever since and finally made his return against Sevilla. In an emotional affair, the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium crowd roared to life as the youngster appeared near the touchline to be subbed on.

Coming on for captain Pedri, the latter took off the captain’s armband and handed it over to Barca’s beloved No.8. Cameras captured the player nearly in tears as he came onto the pitch. Even though the Spaniard’s contribution was limited to a seven-minute cameo, fans applauded and celebrated his return emphatically.

A supporter commented that Gavi‘s return only confirms the fact that Barcelona will claim the La Liga title. Another praised Hansi Flick for carefully making substitutions in a way that saw the talented youngster wear the captain’s armband in his first game back. In one of his most characteristic traits, Gavi also fouled a player just 25 seconds after coming on.
