John Cena‘s return at the Money in the Bank PLE shocked wrestling fans. Another surprise came when he announced his 2025 retirement. The fans and fellow WWE superstars who worked with The Leader of Cenation expressed their sadness and shared some of their stories about him on social media. One of these stars was Baron Corbin, who talked about his relationship with John Cena in an interview.
While speaking with US Magazine, The Lone Wolf opened up about how John Cena became a mentor to him. Baron Corbin stated that they lived just 10 minutes from each other and often met at the same gym. The former United States Champion said that whenever he would get frustrated, Cena guided him like a true mentor. Corbin admitted that this was one of the reasons why Cena is considered the GOAT.
The former Constable completely revamped himself with a successful run in NXT. He won the Dusty Cup Tag Team Classic with Bron Breakker and even won the NXT Tag Titles with him. However, fans expressed their disappointment over breaking them up, with the 26-year-old star going to Raw and Corbin being drafted to SmackDown.
We live 10 minutes from each other. I work out at his gym. When I would get frustrated, he became a mentor, in a sense. He would say, 'Let's go to dinner. Let's eat steak and burnt Brussels sprouts, have some wine and we'll talk through this and figure it out. hat's why John Cena is who he is.Baron Corbin on X
Fans got to witness Corbin as the good guy against Carmelo Hayes in the first round of the King of the Ring tournament. Unfortunately, he lost and couldn’t progress to the next round. Recently, he was attacked by Legado Del Fantasma backstage. He and Santos Escobar could potentially meet in the ring on SmackDown in the future.
Baron Corbin defeated Angelo Dawkins in the Speed Tournament to determine the No. 1 contender
Baron Corbin is part of the new No. 1 contender tournament for the Speed Championship. In this tournament, all matches have been given a three-minute time limit. He wrestled against Angelo Dawkins and defeated him to progress to the semi-finals.
The match was, of course, fast-paced, with both stars trying to finish it in under three minutes. If they had drawn, both would’ve been eliminated from the tournament. It was a close contest until The Lone Wolf ended the match by hitting Dawkins with End of Days. He won the match with only 12 seconds remaining on the clock.
Corbin could get a chance to wrestle the loud-mouth Hayes once again if he wins his match against Ilja Dragunov. The current champion is Andrade, who won the title on the June 7th episode of Speed by defeating Ricochet. Only time will tell whether he manages to reach the finals and defeat the champion or not.
