In a thrilling Thursday night showdown, Lamar Jackson led the Baltimore Ravens to a narrow 35-34 victory over Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals. The reigning MVP took his team from 7-21 to come back and season-sweep Burrow’s Bengals.
Jackson delivered an impressive performance, completing 25-of-33 passes for 290 yards and four touchdowns. The Ravens’ quarterback has been explosive since the initial defeats, charging the Ravens to 7-3 after ten weeks. However, the Ravens’ defense counteracts their offense, potentially pulling them behind in big games.
As the league passes the halfway mark, post-season predictions have been rampant. The Ravens’ biggest threat to the Super Bowl would be AFC South’s Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs who are yet to lose a game in the season defeated the Ravens in an animated AFC Championship game last year to advance to the championship game. They repeated their fortunes this season as well with a win over the Ravens in the regular season opener.
The Kansas City Chiefs led by Patrick Mahomes in the center are pursuing a three-peat. Mahomes and Jackson are two of the best quarterbacks in the league across the last five years. The key difference between the two remains the Super Bowl rings, of which Mahomes has three already.
Speaking on ESPN’s Get Up, ex-Philadelphia Eagles player Bart Scott likened this fact to a legendary rivalry. The linebacker denoted that the Jackson-Mahomes rivalry is reminiscent of the old Peyton Manning-Tom Brady rivalry in the early parts of the millennia.
Right now, Lamar Jackson is Peyton Manning and Patrick Mahomes is Tom Brady.

Peyton Manning took his own sweet time till the ninth season to register his first championship. In fact, all of his five league MVPs came before his breakout Super Bowl win with the Indianapolis Colts in 2006. Later, he won the Super Bowl 50 with the Denver Broncos. Meanwhile, Tom Brady already had his third title in his bag at the time Manning won his first.
Jackson follows Manning in the style of play as well. The ex-Colts player and Jackson are referred to as dual-threat quarterbacks, with passing and rushing capabilities. Earlier, Mike Greenberg and Nick Wright made comparison claims between the two of them.
A struggling defense might hold Lamar Jackson from first championship
The picture is clearer as the NFL enters Week 10. The Baltimore Ravens are second in the division ahead of Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Browns. The Ravens are ranked 4th in the conference, setting themselves for a very possible WC1 in the playoffs.

Marlon Humphrey, the Ravens’ cornerback, admitted that they were playing poorly in the last few games. The 28-year-old, via ESPN’s Jamison Hensley, noted that the team were carried by Lamar Jackson throughout the season.
The Ravens’ defense failed to contain an explosive Ja’Marr Chase. He ran riot through the M&T Stadium with an 11-reception, 264-yard game with three overall touchdowns. That has led to the players admitting that they have not been their best, mentioning that the standards of defense have dropped. In addition to Humphrey, DT Nnamdi Madubuike shared similar thoughts via Jeff Zrebiec of the Athletic.
The Ravens are meeting another divisional rival Pittsburgh Steelers in the next week. They have relatively teams with winning records in the upcoming weeks including the Eagles and Los Angeles Chargers.
