Many anticipate Angel Reese to spill her magic on an WNBA court soon. However, the young sensation is already making more money as a college basketball player than she will as a pro.

Angel Reese has been the talk of the town since winning the NCAA Women’s National Championship. The LSU forward is probably one of the most popular female athletes in the basketball world right now. While viewers and fans watching and anticipating her participation in the WNBA, Reese has some other plans. Reese and her Iowa competitor Caitlin Clark were expected to put in their names for the WNBA 2023 Draft. However, neither could do so due to the league’s rules and criteria for athletes.
The WNBA has an age bar of 22 years old. Any athlete who wishes to put their name in for the draft must be 22 or be turning that number in the year of the draft. While Caitlin celebrated her 21st in January, Reese is still technically 20 as she turns a year older in May. Therefore, while they both have enormous talent and are sure to get picked, they aren’t eligible to apply yet.
Apart from her ineligibility, Reese has spoken on the record to say that she has other reasons not to go pro yet: The NIL deals. The forward spoke on the I AM ATHLETE podcast, saying, “I’m not in a rush. I’m chilling right now. I am in no rush to go to the league. The money I’m making is more than some of the people that are in the league that might be top players.”
Reese currently has more public NIL deals than any other student-athlete, with 17 deals to her name. Her wide variety of deals includes apparel companies, like the fashion brand Coach and restaurants (McDonald’s and Wingstop), and many more. According to reports, Reese makes about $876,000 going up and getting a $485,000 jump since the beginning of the Final Four.

Is Angel Reese visiting the White House?
After Jill Biden’s invitation to both Iowa and LSU, Angel Reese took to Twitter to call the first lady’s decision a joke. Speaking about whether or not she was willing to accept the invitation thereafter, Reese said she wasn’t interested since if the roles were reversed, LSU wouldn’t have been considered to be invited. She also spoke about how she doesn’t accept the President and First Lady’s apology.
While LSU was rumored to decline their invitation, their spokesperson stated that the team would be visiting. However, there was no mention of which players would end up along with coach Kim Mulkey. Many suspected that Reese would end up going to the White House after her earlier reaction. However, Reese has accepted President Joe Biden’s invitation to visit the White House. She also stated, “I’m a team player, I’m gonna do what’s best for the team.”
