Since last year, Angel Reese and her LSU Tigers team have received several unwanted backlash. After all, they defeated fan favorite Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes while trolling them simultaneously. In March Madness 2024, they defeated a tough UCLA team in the NCAA Sweet Sixteen.
Following the win, Reese made a bold opinion about her squad. A reporter asked Angel Reese how they have embraced the negativity surrounding their team. She claimed everyone not only wanted to defeat them, but they also wanted to be them.
We're the good villains. Everybody wanna to beat LSU, everybody wants to BE LSU. Everybody wants to play against LSU. You gotta realize that we're not any regular basketball team. We wanna do whatever it takes to win a game. We're just changing the game. We're doing the unknown. I don't care what the outside think.Angel Reese via post-game interview
Reese alluded that the negative noise does not get to her or her team. Compared to last season, the LSU Tigers remain without their 3 top scorers from the Championship Game. They brought in Hayley Van Lith to shore up their guard positions. At first, it did not bring a positive effect, as the Tigers have struggled with chemistry throughout the regular season. Nevertheless, things have changed in the last few games.
As the competition progressed, they showed their capability. A tough UCLA Bruins team did not deter them in any way. Reese and Flau’jae Johnson had double-doubles to ensure the Tigers advanced from the Sweet Sixteen. If they continue to perform this way, repeating as last year’s winner remains likely.
Angel Reese to resume her rivalry with Caitlin Clark
College basketball fans will see a rematch of last season’s rivalry between Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark. Reese and Clark remain two of the biggest names in College Basketball. Caitlin Clark‘s Iowa Hawkeyes have advanced from the Sweet Sixteen and set up the inevitable rematch between Reese and Clark.
Last season’s title-deciding game had Reese taunting Clark after defeating the Hawkeyes. A visibly upset Clark shed tears during the post-game press conference. Clark aims to exact revenge, as this will be her final college game against Reese before moving to the WNBA.
The hype for the upcoming game remains high. There is a chance the Elite Eight matchup could break the viewership records. As such, it remains an important game. One can expect the all-time leading scorer in NCAA history to make her mark. On the other hand, Reese will aim to showcase her competitive spirit to upset Clark and the Hawkeyes once again.
