“Never betting again” – Basketball fans STUNNED as 14 seed Oakland beat Kentucky in huge upset at March Madness

14 seed Oakland Golden Grizzlies land a massive upset by beating No. 3 seed Kentucky Wildcats in 1st round of NCAA March Madness

Considered one of the best college basketball teams, the University of Kentucky Wildcats have maintained their reputation for quite some time now.

They are usually a staple at the NCAA Elite Eight. Tonight, however, was a different story. The 14th seed, the Oakland Golden Grizzlies, booted the No. 3 seed Wildcats out of March Madness. This massive upset of the tournament has stunned fans.

The Kentucky Wildcats entered March Madness with a seemingly easy task in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Oakland Golden Grizzlies rolled into the PPG Paints Arena knowing they had a tough task ahead with the multiple-time NCAA Champions.

Although the Wildcats kept the game close, big shots and motivation to win from the Grizzlies kept the men in blue at bay. The Wildcats tried their best to close the lead, only to miss shots and lose the game in the closing seconds.

This loss leaves a big red mark on famed college coach John Calipari‘s legacy. After all, many of the current NBA stars have honed their game under coaches Calipari and Kentucky. All that legacy, only to slip and fall to a 14-seed team, was the upset of the night.

The Oakland Golden Grizzlies have never gone past the first round in NCAA Tournament history. They attributed their win to their determination to play the best basketball they could. However, it bears no consolation to the leagues of college basketball fans who were left stunned by the outcome.

Basketball fans let their voices heard after Kentucky Wildcats get massive upset

What bothered basketball fans was that a team with NBA draft talent could not win a supposedly easy game. Not one player in Oakland’s college basketball history has been drafted above the 2nd round in the NBA.

That gives everyone the gulf in talent between the two teams. Add to that coach Calipari’s status as one of the best to do it.

Therefore, it was not surprising that fans jumped onto social media to let the Wildcats know how they felt. They could not hold their emotions back when posting these choice comments.

Sharing a wide spectrum of reactions online, here’s what fans have to say:

With that being said, this massive upset will surely leave a bad mark on the University of Kentucky and their Wildcats men’s basketball team. After all, who expected them to be booted out by a 14-seed team whose players are not looking at life in professional basketball once they graduate?
