The UConn Huskies men’s basketball team have made history on Monday by winning the NCAA Championship in back-to-back seasons. They did that in style, shutting down an unreal performance from Zach Edey and his Purdue Boilermakers. The Purdue team did not have an answer to the dominance that UConn brought to the game.

Entering the game, all eyes were set on the battle between Zach Edey and UConn’s Donovan Clingan. Clingan did not have a game in continuation to his usual best. However, his team’s performance was such that an uncanny slip-up did not matter at the end.

Such was the overall domination of the Huskies that almost 5 of their players produced double-digit performances. What was more impressive is that their swarming defensive scheme canceled out the production of the rest of the Purdue players.

Edey ended up with 37 points as he dominated the boards. However, that great effort was nullified, as his teammates could not help. The defensive scheme of the Huskies was such that the Boilermakers struggled to either get a shot off or score when they tried. UConn’s depth allowed fresher bench players to harrow Purdue’s starters during key moments.

UConn’s players were impressive in the way they got their shots off. Despite 7′ 4″ Edey manning the paint, UConn players attacked the basket and took tough shots. After all, they knew Edey would not go after all of those shots, as he could get into foul trouble.

The UConn Huskies effectively showcased that the most storied college basketball team can continue to show their dominance on the biggest stage. In the past, it was their women’s team that stood tall. However, basketball fans felt that with head coach Dan Hurley orchestrating their first back-to-back titles, the men’s team is looking to build a dynasty.
