After Texas A&M-Commerce secured a 76-72 victory at Incarnate Word on Monday, a chaotic brawl ensued during the post-game handshake. While the exact cause of the altercation remains elusive, it escalated rapidly, with players from both sides exchanging punches. Despite attempts from coaches and teammates to intervene, the skirmish endured for over a minute, with members from both teams grappling and scuffling across the court.
Amidst the ongoing brawl, numerous basketball players found themselves on the ground, leading to multiple pileups. Broadcast analysts reported that a “young girl” in the audience suffered injuries during the altercation, and one of the team’s managers was observed with “blood on his face.” However, authorities or the schools have yet to provide immediate information regarding the extent of the injuries.
Later on Monday, both Incarnate Word and A&M-Commerce released a joint statement expressing apologies “for the behavior displayed by our respective men’s basketball programs.”
There is no place in college sports for such actions. The unsportsmanlike conduct that occurred after the game does not reflect the values of the universities involved, as well as the Southland Conference and their member institutions. The matter is currently being reviewed collectively by the Conference office and both institutions as the safety of our student-athletes, staff, and fans is our primary concern.The statement read
The Southland Conference also issued a brief statement acknowledging the altercation, stating that it is aware of the “end-of-game situation that occurred.”
We will be working closely with both universities to review the footage and issue appropriate disciplinary action. Entering Monday’s contest, both teams were situated at the bottom of the conference standings, each with three league wins to their name.

After the Southland Conference game between Incarnate Word and Texas A&M-Commerce on Monday evening, a massive fight erupted, involving players from both teams throwing punches. This incident sparked a frenzy on social media, with numerous fans expressing their reactions to the altercation and making reference to NBA players, Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors and Isaiah Stewart of the Detroit Pistons.
