Utah State suffered a 76-65 loss to Missouri and a Utah state cheerleader was seen getting rather emotional on the sidelines. The TV cameras panned to her and saw her eyes watering up and lips shivering which left fans perplexed as to what was going on. It turns out Ashlyn Whimpey is the partner of Utah State guard Sean Bairstow. Sean is an Australian native who moved to the United States to pursue basketball.
Ashlyn Whimpey was later seen on Sean’s Instagram story where he said – “As supporting as they come, congrats on such a successful 20 years of cheer.” Ashlyn Whimpey was consoled by fans on social media for letting her emotions get the better of her on national television. She took to social media to share how she got turned into a meme while soaking in an emotional moment.
Ashlyn was not only sad to see her boyfriend lose but it was also her last game cheering for Utah State. Ashlyn is also a senior in college just like Bairstow and had already cheered at her last home game back in early March. Ending her cheerleading career without her home fans and watching her boyfriend lose must have got to her. Basketball fans turned the emotional moment into a lighthearted meme and Ashlyn was sportive about it.

March Madness has lived up to its hype yet again this year
College basketball reaches its peak in March with the March Madness knockout bracket having fans on the edge of their seats. This year’s tournament has already seen all of the perfect brackets vanquished before the Sweet Sixteen. The 2 and 4 seeds were eliminated on the first day itself. The Houston Cougars are currently the odds-on favorite to win it all at +1000.
Sean Bairstow and Utah State lost to the seven-ranked Missouri in the First round to end their hopes at an NCAA championship. Missouri went on to lose in the next game to Princeton ending their dreams of an NCAA championship. Last year’s champions, Kansas, also saw a second-round exit to Arkansas in a narrow 72-71 defeat.
March Madness has given us iconic moments down the road, from Magic Johnson and Larry Bird‘s legendary NCAA finals to Patrick Ewing dominating in Georgetown. In more recent times, college athletes like Zion Williamson and John Wall were some of the most entertaining. College basketball can produce such elite players because of the importance surrounding March Madness. It is the closest a college player will get to an NBA game.
