Bayer Leverkusen are going from strength to strength in a season which many fail to find superlatives for! Xabi Alonso and his men have been nothing short of world class in their way to the Bundesliga crown and likely another DFB Pokal and the UEFA Europa League. A side that never knows when they’re beaten, the club claimed their latest record in utmost fashion with a 5-1 thumping of Eintracht Frankfurt.

After narrowly escaping defeat on matchday 31 against VfB Stuttgart, Leverkusen were relentless against Frankfurt. It was goals galore as Leverkusen equaled the unbelievable unbeaten record set by Benfica in 1963-65. After 48 games without a single loss for Leverkusen, many fans have begun to think that this is a side that may not lose a game in the near future.

The fact that Alonso pulled this off with a team that were used to mid-table finishes deserves all the more priase. After confirming their Bundesliga title several matchdays ago, Alonso and co. will now shift their focus to the Europa League and the domestic cup.

Is Xabi Alonso a magician? While fans debate as to whether the former Real Madrid and Bayern Munich man really is a sorcerer, one thing is for sure – he is a footballing genius. To have orchestrated one of the best seasons ever in world football that too with a squad many wouldn’t have seen winning every competition available is something monumental in itself.

From Real Madrid to Liverpool and Bayern Munich, the world is after Alonso’s signature. A fan commented that what he’s done with the club certainly ranks at the very top when it comes to footballing achievements. Words like Bayer Neverlusen and Neverlosing were thrown in the air as fans celebrated the club’s latest win in the Bundesliga.

Another supporter added that while winning every game this season sounds appealing, losing their final game will be the figurative dagger to the heart. The club lead 2-0 on aggregate against AS Roma in the Europa League and anything other than defeat will see them through to the final.

While fans are of the opinion that he deserves everything that comes his way, Real Madrid can only hope that he’ll change his mind about staying at Leverkusen.
