Bayern in danger of losing David Alaba on a free transfer
Bayern Munich could lose one of their best defenders on a free transfer as Alaba’s contract is running out next year. The player has so far refused to accept any new deal with his demands apparently not accepted by Bayern. Moreover, his agent Pina Zahavi has been quite vocal about the contract issues with the club. However, Bayern will try their best to keep him according to president Rummenigge.
David Alaba has to make a decision for himself – Rummenigge
Bayern and Alaba are at loggerheads over the new contract. The player is demanding a higher salary as he believes that he is a really important player for the club. Alaba has essentially become the main center back under Hansi Flick after switching from the left back position. Many big clubs around Europe are interested in Alaba as he can take their defense to the next level and Bayern must look to stop him from leaving.
Bayern President, Rummenigge speaking to sportbild said, “We had a meeting two weeks ago with his father George and his advisor Pini Zahavi. The conversation was okay, the atmosphere was alright. But I have to say, we’ve been going in circles for months. At some point we have to start planning for the new season. We have to know: Will David stay with FC Bayern or not? A decision is important to us at this point.”
The players of the team have supported Alaba and are backing him to perform this season despite the transfer rumors. However, Rummeneggie urged players to reduce the wage demands as Corona has depleted the club’s finances. He added, “I believe that players would be well advised to stay at a club if they feel comfortable there and, such as in David’s case, are celebrating great successes. I think we all think the same thing here at the club: We all want David to stay. He’s a wonderful person and a top player. David Alaba now has to make a decision for himself.”
