Sky Sports Germany, in a recent report revealed that Bayern Munich had attempted to sign La Masia product and Spanish wonder kid Lamine Yamal, when he was just 14 years old. 16-year-old Yamal has been one of the most talked about player in world football, and is currently impressing for Spain at the Euros 2024.
The young Barcelona star became the youngest player to feature and assist in a European Championship match, and has already made nine appearances for the national team. With seven goals and ten assists in his first full season at Camp Nou, the teenager has cemented his status as a future star for the club.
In a surprising relevation, Sky Sports Germany reported that the young La Masia prodigy was once a top target for Bayern Munich. A few years back, former Munich directors Hasan Salihamidzic and Marco Neppe were keen to bring a 14-year-old Yamal to the Allianz Arena. They considered him a potential Ballon d’Or winner. However, the winger decided to stay back at Barcelona, where he made his professional debut at a young age.

Last year, Barcelona secured a new agreement with the young Spanish talent, extending his stay at the club until June 30, 2026. The new contract includes an enormous buyout clause of €1 billion, ensuring he remains untouchable for years to come.

Speaking to Sport Bild, the former World Cup champion and Barcelona icon expressed optimism about the 16-year-old prodigy’s future, pointing out to his recent heroics for both club and country. He further highlighted a generational shift at the Euros with emerging talents like Yamal, Jamal Musiala, and Jude Bellingham.
