Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salimhadzic confirms that RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano is now a Bayern Munich player
RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano was one of the most attractive prospects for the summer transfer window. He had a release clause of €42.5 million and Bayern Munich is set to activate the release clause in the coming few weeks. It is a sensible move considering that the summer transfer window is set to open only after the current season finishes.
Liverpool and Chelsea were trying for the French centre-back along with Bayern Munich
It was known to everyone that Dayot Upamecano was on every big club’s radar in the summer considering his achievable release clause. Liverpool and Chelsea were competing with Bayern Munich for the signature of the strong centre-back but it was the Bundesliga champions who struck first. Personal terms have been agreed between player and the club and he will be a Bayern Munich player till 2026 after the end of this season.
The release clause will be paid to RB Leipzig come the end of this season. Before becoming a Bayern Munich player, Dayot Upamecano will want to fully focus on the summer event, the Euro 2021 and ensure that France wins the league after winning the FIFA World Cup 2018. France was runner-up in the Euro 2016 finals, falling to Cristiano Ronaldo‘s Portugal who won 1-0.
