WWE has significantly increased the number of international live events that they do every year, and the promotion is currently on a tour of the UK. At a recent live event held in Newcastle, Chad Gable challenged Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship. The two put on an incredible match, which impressed only the fans but also top WWE Superstar Bayley.
Bayley penned down her thoughts on X, congratulating the two superstars for putting on a clinic. The Role Model even said that she was excited to see Gable become World Heavyweight Champion one day. The WWE Universe could not agree with her more, as they have been asking for a singles push for the Olympian for years now. However, the way he has been booked represents a major issue in the Triple H era of WWE.
Gunther and Gable already have a lot of history between them. The Minnesotan spent the summer of 2023 going after the Ring General and his Intercontinental Championship. He even became the first person to beat the Austrian on the main roster, albeit via countout.
Watching Gunther vs Chad Gable tonight made me really excited to inevitably see @wwegable as World Heavyweight Champion someday. Such a special performer!

Gable was also the last challenger who stood between Gunther and him finally becoming the longest reigning Intercontinental Champion ever. Every time these superstars clashed, they made magic in the ring. With both superstars still being on the same brand, fans are still hoping to witness another face-off between these two old rivals.
Kurt Angle refutes fans comparing Chad Gable to himself
Kurt Angle and Chad Gable have been compared ever since the latter’s debut in NXT. Both are highly technical in-ring workers with an amateur wrestling background and can excel in both the comedic and serious sides of professional wrestling. They even have highly patriotic American gimmicks. Fans even started chanting “You suck!” at the 38-year-old, a chant famously used for the former WWE Champion.
Speaking at a K&S Wrestlefest signing, the Wrestling Machine said that he was not a big fan of this comparison. After looking at Gable’s recent performances, he said that the American Made leader was on fire. Rather than being the next Kurt Angle, he had become his own man and not someone who was imitating the Hall of Famer.
I got to wrestle him for, like, five minutes. It wasn’t really a match. He, I felt like they dropped the ball with him for a while.
