Dakota Kai was released from her WWE contract last week by the Stamford-based promotion, leaving fans heartbroken. Many had hoped to see her receive a major push in the near future, but that never materialized. Instead, WWE made the surprising decision to part ways with her. In the wake of the news, her real-life friend, Bayley, shared a heartfelt message in response.
Taking to X, The Role Model shared a series of throwback photos with Dakota Kai—some from their time at amusement parks, others from behind the scenes in WWE. Alongside the heartfelt images, the former Women’s Champion captioned the post by calling Kai her “forever.” It was a touching way to bid farewell to her close friend as she embarks on the next chapter of her journey.

This wasn’t the first time the former Women’s Tag Team Champion had been released by WWE. In April 2022, Dakota Kai was let go by the company as well. However, her fortunes changed at SummerSlam 2022 when Triple H brought her back as part of Bayley’s newly formed main roster faction, The Damage CTRL, alongside IYO SKY. That moment marked the second chapter of the Kiwi’s WWE career.
From that point on, the 36-year-old enjoyed a dominant run alongside The Role Model and The Genius of the Sky. As a trio, they even captured the Women’s Tag Team Titles on Raw. However, as a singles competitor, Kai often struggled to gain consistent momentum. Her most notable singles match came against Lyra Valkyria in a high-stakes bout for the inaugural Women’s Intercontinental Championship.
Dakota Kai reportedly sparking interest among other wrestling promotions
Dakota Kai wasted no time in turning heads just days after her WWE departure. A beloved fan favorite and an undeniable asset during her time in the company, Kai’s talent never went unnoticed by the audience. According to recent reports, several top names in sports entertainment are already expressing strong interest in signing the former Damage CTRL member.

According to Fightful Select, external companies in professional wrestling and top agents have already begun reaching out to the former Women’s Tag Team Champion with enticing offers. The pitched deals are expected to be quite lucrative, with all parties waiting for WWE’s 90-day non-compete clause to expire. Once that period ends, Kai is expected to sign with a major promotion in the near future.
Additionally, Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio revealed that in 2022, Kai was close to signing with Tony Khan‘s All Elite Wrestling. However, when WWE approached her with an opportunity to join Damage CTRL, she chose to stay with the Stamford-based promotion. Now that her time with WWE has come to an end, AEW appears to be a potential destination for the Kiwi superstar.
