Corentin Moutet clinched a hard-fought 6-7 (5-7) 6-4 7-6 (7-5) win over compatriot Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in the first round of the Queen’s Club Championships. But it was his on-court interview that made a lot of headlines because he used expletives not once but seven times, despite being told not to.

It was Moutet’s first match against Perricard. The 22-year-old set up his match against Moutet after playing the qualifiers. To Moutet, the big-serving Perricard served 14 aces.

It was so much pressure because every point is very important, because he’s serving that good that he puts so much pressure on my service game. I’m so happy to make it today. It’s been a long last two months, so I’m happy to get a win here. Thanks to all of you for coming both days, and I’m very happy to get the win here today.

Corentin Moutet said during the on-court interview

Moutet also described how it felt when his opponent saved a match point with a 142mph second serve.

That’s so frustrating. When I had match point, I was on the second serve; you aim in the middle, whatever you do just put the ball in the court and then he hits me with 142. I was like, ‘F***, I will have to serve.’

And here he was told by BBC presenter Jenny Drummond not to drop f-bombs. To this, Moutet responded with: “F***, f***, f***!“

Drummond then apologized for the language and requested that he not use expletives when she asked him one more question about how he felt after finally securing a win on grass following his defeat to Nick Kyrgios in the first round of the Stuttgart Open.

Right, Corentin, I’m going to ask you one more question. Apologies, everyone, for the language there. I’m going to ask you one more question, so please keep it clean, okay?

Jenny Drummond told Corentin Moutet

And how did he respond to this? “F***, f***, f***,” that’s what Moutet said. Later on Instagram, he shared the clip of the incident and wrote: “I was just joking, I hope you guys didn’t get offended. Thanks for the love.“

It was the first time Moutet had won a match since the Barcelona Open. After his second-round defeat to Lorenzo Musetti in Barcelona, Moutet lost in the opening rounds of the Madrid Open, Italian Open, Hamburg Open, French Open, and the Stuttgart Open.

Moutet will next be locking horns with Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the second round of the Queen’s event. The 27-year-old beat Cameron Norrie in his opening round.

The Spaniard will be facing Moutet for the third time. Their previous two matches ended in Fokina’s favor. This will be the first time they will face each other on grass. Like Moutet, Fokina has also not yet won a tour-level title.

Moutet has so far made three finals. He lost the 2020 Qatar Open to Andrey Rublev, the 2025 Mallorca Championships to Tallon Griekspoor, and the 2025 Almaty Open to Daniil Medvedev. After these warm-up events on grass, Moutet will be hoping to reach the third round of Wimbledon for the first time. The main draw of Wimbledon starts on June 29.
