On Monday, the Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA) announced the finalists for the MLB Awards 2024. The one award that has caught the attention of the fans is the Most Valuable Player (MVP).
As the name suggests, the MVP award is given to the player who achieved huge success in the season and played a huge part in the team’s success. Several players this season shined brightly and had a massive impact on their team.
However, only three players from each league can be named finalists. This year, New York Yankees teammates Aaron Judge and Juan Soto have been nominated for this honor alongside Kansas City Royals’ Bobby Witt Jr. in the American League.

American League MVP Award finalists for 2024
#1 Aaron Judge
The New York Yankees’ captain Aaron Judge had another fantastic regular season. He, alongside Juan Soto, played a huge role in the Yankees’ offense this year and led them to their first American League pennant since 2019.
Judge crossed the 50-home run mark again this year while hitting 58 bombs. Apart from that, he led the RBIs category with 144 and had a high batting average of .322. If he wins the award this year, this would be his second AL MVP title in three years, having won this honor ahead of Shohei Ohtani in 2022.
#2 Juan Soto
After being traded by the San Diego Padres in December 2023, many fans were eager to see how Juan Soto performed in the pinstripes. It is safe to say he did not disappoint.
The Dominican International slammed 41 home runs and had 109 RBIs in the regular season. In the postseason, he led the offensive line when the other struggled at the plate. These performances from him have caught the eyes of several top teams who are willing to splash around $600 million to land him on their team next season.
#3 Bobby Witt Jr.
Bobby Witt Jr. was one of the few bright stars for the Kansas City Royals in the dark 2023 season. This season he once again was arguably the best player on the Royals’ roster. His efforts during the 2024 campaign have earned him a nomination for the MVP award.
The 24-year-old hit 32 home runs and had 109 RBIs while batting at a league-high average of .332. He would lead the Royals to a wild-card berth where they knocked out the Baltimore Orioles to advance to the ALDS. They would end up losing 3-1 in the best-of-five division series against the Yankees.
National League MVP Award finalist for 2024
#1 Shohei Ohtani
The unanimous winner of the 2023 American League MVP award, Shohei Ohtani, is running for another MVP crown. After making a huge move to the Los Angeles Dodgers, expectations were high on his shoulders.
The Japanese star founded the 50-50 club with 54 home runs and 59 stolen bases. This achievement has made him a heavy favorite for the honor this year.
#2 Francisco Lindor
New York Mets’s shortstop Francisco Lindor started the season slowly. Till May 20, the switch hitter was batting with a slash line of .193/.268/.348. He though turned his season from there around.
Lindor finished the year with 33 home runs and a batting average of .273. He played a massive part in the Mets’ run to the postseason where they reached the National League Championship Series.
#3 Ketel Marte
After a surprising run to the World Series with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2023, Ketel Marte was once again the marquee player for the NL West team this year. The second baseman hit a career-high 36 home runs in 136 games for the D-Backs this year.
This performance saw him being named an MLB All-Star for the second time in his career and was also nominated for the Golden Glove. He and this team were unable to progress to the postseason as their head-to-head record against the Mets and the Braves was not better than them despite all three teams finishing with an 89-73 record.
The winners of this award will be announced on Thursday, November 21 at 6 p.m. Eastern Time on the MLB Network. Before that, the Jackie Robison Rookie of the Year, Manager of the Year, and the Cy Young Award winners will be announced.
