The BCCI, the PCB and match referee Andy Pycroft were all part of a controversial triangle post the group stage match when India took on Pakistan. The Pakistan players and their management had blamed the match referee for taking the side of the Indian team and not insisting on the handshake that is customary after cricket games.
However, after days of discussion and multiple boycott threats the matter seemed to get resolved, with both Pycroft and the PCB settling the matter in private. Pycroft further stood as match referee in the Super 4s India vs. Pakistan game as well.
The three parties once again find themselves in a troika and this time it has been initiated from the BCCI. The Indian cricket board has filed an official complaint to Andy Pycroft over controversial gestures made by the Pakistani players during the match against India, stating that these gestures should not be allowed.
Pakistani opener Sahibzada Farhan was the first to trigger question marks after his celebration post his half century. Farhan in celebration acted like his bat was a gun and fired a few shots in the air. The celebration didn’t sit well with the Indian fans as many felt that amidst high tensions between the two countries a celebration of this kind was intolerable.

When Pakistan came to bowl, there were multiple instances when fast bowler Haris Rauf was seen gesturing controversially. Standing close to the boundary, Rauf was seen gesturing jets flying and all of a sudden crashing. He was intending to provoke fans by stating that the Pakistani army had made the Indian jets lose their balance just like the way he gestured.
He later on went to show the 6-0 symbol with his hands, a war win that the Pakistanis have been claiming all through the last few months. However, making such gestures that were political and controversial on the cricket field were seen as unacceptable by the Indian crowd and thus the management has filed an official complaint.
Amid all the India vs. Pakistan drama, Abrar Ahmed and Wanindu Hasaranga display the ideal sporting show
The 2025 Asia Cup has so far been all about on and off-field controversies with India and Pakistan getting involved in multiple tussles. Amid all the chaos that surrounds the Asia Cup, the Super 4s match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi, gave fans their ideal sporting moment.
In the first innings when Sri Lanka was batting, Pakistani spinner Abrar Ahmed dismissed Wanindu Hasaranga and then did the Neymar Jr. celebration, a celebration often done by the Sri Lankan whenever he takes a wicket.

In the second innings when Hasaranga pulled off a stunning catch he made sure he looked at Ahmed in the Pakistani dugout and did the Pakistani spinner’s trademark celebration in reply. To this Ahmed gave a very sporting smile in the dugout.
The best moment though took place after the match when both players shook hands. They hugged each other and Ahmed was seen justifying his actions to Hasaranga – to which the Sri Lankan spinner smiled and seemed to say that he enjoyed the banter and also lauded the Pakistani bowlers for his match winning spell of just 8 runs in 4 overs picking up a wicket.
