The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released its schedule for the international home season of the Indian’s men’s cricket team and the number of games may be staggering enough but truth be told, if India is planning to make ICC Champion’s Trophy the bird’s eye, there won’t be much practice that the Men in Blue will be having along the way.
The 2025 ICC Champions Trophy will be played in the ODI format and the matches are slated to be played between 19th February and 9th March. The schedule released by the apex cricket authority of India states that the Men in Blue will only be playing six ODIs ahead of the hallowed fray, which has raised quite a few eyebrows, considering the lack of ICC trophies for more than a decade now.
Going by the schedule, Team India will be a part of 16 T20Is, (8 of them being away and 8 of them being home) and only six ODIs following the finish of the T20 World Cup. The fans and the experts have expressed concern about the practice schedule of the Men in Blue ahead of such a grand event.
India will be kickstarting their journey after the T20 World Cup with a series away from home against Zimbabwe that will see them play five T20Is. This will be followed by another outing against Sri Lanka where India will play three T20Is and three ODIs.
Apart from these India will only be playing another three ODIs against England at home between February 6th to February 12th which are slated to be played just ahead of the Champions Trophy.
The rest of the fixtures throughout the season will see Rohit Sharma and company play five T20Is against Zimbabwe, three T20Is against Sri Lanka, two Tests and three T20Is against Bangladesh, three Tests against New Zealand, four T20Is against South Africa, five Tests against Australia and five T20Is against England.
A glance at how India is faring in the 2024 T20 World Cup
At the moment, Team India is engaged in West Indies for their T20 World Cup. They started the Super Eight with a bang as they toppled Afghanistan to maintain their winning streak in the tournament so far.
A rollicking batting display from Suryakumar Yadav backed aptly by the bowling duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh propelled India to a fine win. Their next assignment in the biennial extravaganza is tomorrow where Bangladesh awaits.
