BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia cleared the air around the 2025 Asia Cup trophy handover row, suggesting that the board would raise the issue during the upcoming ICC meeting in Dubai. Saikia firmly stated that ACC chief Mohsin Naqvi would be compelled to return the trophy to India.
The 2025 Asia Cup, which concluded in the month of September, was marred by controversy. It all started from India’s decision to not shake hands or interact with the Pakistani players during the tournament. The controversy dragged on, with players from both sides engaging in heated on-field clashes and provocative gestures. The ICC also imposed fines on key players, including Suryakumar Yadav and Haris Rauf.
The dramatic situation culminated in the final showdown in Dubai on September 28, where India defeated Pakistan for the third time in the tournament to secure their ninth Asia Cup title. Following the decisive victory, the Indian team made the high-profile decision to refuse to accept the trophy from ACC head Mohsin Naqvi, citing his role as Interior Minister of Pakistan. Naqvi reportedly retaliated by instructing its immediate removal from the presentation area.
Thereafter, the Indian team had to celebrate its victory without the trophy. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia most recently, revealed that the board had sent a letter to the ACC, formally requesting them to handover the trophy to the team.
However, Saikia noted that he did not receive a satisfactory response, with Naqvi stating that the Indian team representative must visit his office and collect the trophy in person from him, following which he would assent to a ceremony.
Saikia further noted that the BCCI would also maintain its initial stance on not collecting the Asia Cup trophy from Naqvi. The former Assam cricketer also gave a 48-hour ultimatum to Naqvi and the ACC, revealing that if the trophy is not handed over to the BCCI soon, the issue would be up for discussion at the ICC’s upcoming quarterly meeting in Dubai, starting November 4. Saikia told ANI:
We have approached the ACC and sent a letter 10 days ago. There has been no positive response. We are maintaining our stand and will raise the issue at the ICC meeting, which begins on November 4 in Dubai. The trophy will come, and that is for certain.

– "The trophy will come, and that is for certain, because India has won it. Only the timeline has to be fixed. If we had to take it from Mohsin Naqvi, then we would have taken it on that day of the final. Our stand is very clear… pic.twitter.com/3KfMmr6QMo
Finally, Saikia assured Indian cricket fans that the Asia Cup trophy would reach Mumbai in the coming days, without sharing a timeline. However, Naqvi has reportedly moved the Asia Cup trophy from the ACC headquarters in Dubai to an undisclosed location, complicating the issue.
BCCI Secretary predicts ‘1983-like impact’ if Indian Women’s team wins World Cup final
India will take on South Africa in the final of the 2025 Women’s Cricket World Cup tomorrow, at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia made a bold prediction ahead of the summit clash, while also praising the team for its remarkable performance so far.

The Women in Blue secured a hard-fought victory over defending champions Australia in the second semi-final of the Women’s World Cup. Australia had posted a massive 339-run target on the board in the end of its first innings, which India managed to chase down in 48.3 overs. It was guided by a memorable 127-run innings from Jemimah Rodrigues and an 89-run knock from captain Harmanpreet Kaur.
Saikia, speaking ahead of the final, stated that India’s Women’s World Cup victory could elevate women’s cricket to new heights. He further exclaimed that it would have a similar impact to that of India’s 1983 Men’s Cricket World Cup victory. Saikia also noted that the crowd response at the DY Patil Stadium served as evidence of just how much women’s cricket has gained popularity in India.
The way India [Women] team is performing, the confidence level, their body language, their attitude, that has transformed in last 3-4 years. Now if we win this trophy [Women’s World Cup], it can definitely have the same impact of 1983.
The 2025 Women’s World Cup final, however, will be a tough one for the Women in Blue, as they face a resurgent South African side. The Proteas defeated England in the first semi-final to secure its place, thanks to a record-breaking 169-run innings from captain Laura Wolvaardt.
