Chicago has a new Sheriff in town, the Bears’ Head Coach Ben Johnson. The former offensive coordinator for the Lions competed on a different team in the same division until Sunday. Now, he steps into a new role that comes with added pressure over his previous gig.

Ben Johnson got off to a good start with the staff within the Chicago Bears organization. A video of the staff applauding the entrance of his family has gone viral. In his first press conference as the Head Coach, Johnson made himself more likable to the fans in Chicago with one particular statement.

While addressing the competition in the NFC North, Ben Johnson spoke of his peers Dan Campbell, Matt LaFleur, and Kevin O’Connell. He acknowledged the level of respect he has towards them as all of them made it to the postseason this year.

I know this is the toughest division in football right now. There’s three teams that made the playoffs this year. I got tremendous amount of respect towards the coaches and the players in this league having competed against them for the last 6 years. Dan Campbell, Kevin O’Connell, talk about two guys that are up for Coach of the Year Awards as the season ends here.

However, with that being said, Johnson had a little something extra to say about Matt LaFleur. “To be quite frank with you, I kind of enjoyed beating Matt LaFleur twice a year,” he added. The new HC is off to a good start because the Bears-Packers rivalry is one of the fiercest in the NFL.

The Chicago Bears despise Green Bay because of Aaron Rodgers and his dominant run against them

Fans in Chicago do not desire much. Over the last couple of years, a win over the Green Bay Packers during the regular season is their equivalent of having a successful season. The rivalry between these teams escalated due to Aaron Rodgers. The former Packers’ quarterback beat them at every chance he could and he left with a 24-5 record against the Bears.

To rub salt in their wounds, Jordan Love continued this tradition of Packers besting the Bears as he started with a 3-0 record against them. However, earlier this year, Chicago fought back and beat Green Bay 24-22. For Ben Johnson, beating Green Bay was nothing new. His Lions beat the divisional rivals on two separate occasions this season. Detroit got the best of Matt LaFleur in Week 9 and Week 14.

Ben Johnson finds himself in a different situation now. He has great pieces to work with on offense and defense but Chicago needs a cultural overhaul. The HC will need to implement some of Dan Campbell’s strategies to energize the players in this organization, and more importantly, he will need to provide Caleb Williams with a competent offensive line.
