The Chicago Bears may not have posted the worst record last season, but they did end up finishing last in the division at 7-10. Fortunately for the trade of the No. 1 pick from the Carolina Panthers, the team got an opportunity to change its fate– which brought Caleb Williams into the team.
This offseason, the Bears took drastic steps to improve the roster, especially their offensive line so the rookie quarterback is not overburdened with the responsibility to manage everything, unlike the Panthers’ Bryce Young.
The key additions by the Windy City include Williams and Rome Odunze– both drafted in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. They additionally signed Keenan Allen and running back D’Andre Swift.
During a recent appearance on The Jim Rome Show, the Bears’ second-year tight end Marcedes Lewis sounded quite optimistic about his team’s offense, especially rookie Williams who proved to be worth the hype.
From a talent standpoint, he has everything it takes to be great. Just the arm talent and the off-platform throws, the leadership on the field, I think that’s going to serve him well. Obviously now transitioning into the NFL and being under center more versus being in the shotgun, calling plays like that — now, you’re under center you have to audible and run an offense that way.Marcedes Lewis said
Lewis highlighted that the Bears are offering the perfect offense to the USC standout by combining the passing game with the running game as the perfect strategy.
Bears’ offense rallies around Caleb Williams for debut
Williams is making his NFL debut with a team that for a decade endured .500-or-worse football, which certainly underlines the obvious expectations from the quarterback. However, the Bears have made sure to provide Williams with a supporting and relying offense, which the tight end Lewis highlighted as well.

I have no doubt that he’s going to go out there and do his thing, and us as a team, we have to get better and elevate our games up so it’s an easy transition for him. I’m looking forward to it.Marcedes Lewis added
As far as the quarterback is concerned, he has reflected through many of his interviews and media appearances that he is not afraid of a challenge. The rookie is looking forward to engraving his name among the legends of the Windy City before being a GOAT in the league.
