The Chicago Bears have had a rocky season. The team went on a nice three-game winning streak after taking two losses. However, the team has lost its last three matchups including last week’s game against the New England Patriots. Caleb Williams‘ performance has been a point of concern as the quarterback has not thrown a touchdown in eight quarters.
This has led to discontent within the Bears’ locker room with some players wanting Matt Eberflus to bench the rookie quarterback. This was surprising to hear for fans and veterans because Caleb Williams has been hailed as a leader in the locker room, and he is the ‘franchise quarterback’ of this team.
Former NFL running back LeSean McCoy was taken aback by the rumblings inside Chicago’s locker room. McCoy came to the rookie’s defense on The Facility despite his recent struggles.
The analyst views Williams as the centerpiece of this Bears’ team. The team’s offense revolves around him, and he is irreplaceable, according to McCoy.
LeSean McCoy is confident in Caleb Williams to turn his rough slump around
The former Bills’ running back compared Williams’ situation to that of a rookie Josh Allen. When both these players were drafted, the teams handed over the keys of the franchise to them in their rookie year.
It is a rough task to get the franchise tag next to your name in the first season as an NFL player. There is a learning curve involved and that is what the first overall pick is going through.
LeSean McCoy doubled down on his take that the Bears would not dare consider trading or replacing their quarterback. To players who called for him to be benched, the analyst had a strong message for them.
Right now, the veteran players on the Bears must guide the rookie through this rough stretch.

Despite his talent and skillset, it is Caleb Williams’ first year in the NFL, and as the first overall pick, entrusted with the task of turning a franchise around, he has a lot to bear on his shoulders. The last thing he needs is for his teammates to lose trust in him. It is premature to count a player out due to bad performances in their first year.
Take the example of Peyton Manning—he holds the record for most interceptions thrown by a rookie quarterback with 28. Despite his bad start, he went on to become one of the greatest players in his position. The Bears will need to be patient with their top pick because he needs room to grow.
