Belal Muhammad is currently the UFC welterweight champion. Despite his status as champion, Muhammad is interested in facing former UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland. However, Strickland is currently preparing for a title fight against Dricus Du Plessis for the UFC middleweight crown at UFC 312.

Typically, champions aim to enhance their reputation within the UFC community. Consequently, they often pursue fights against competitors from higher-weight divisions. In this context, welterweight champion Belal Muhammad expressed his desire to compete against Sean Strickland. In an interview with MMA journalist Shakiel Mahjouri, Muhammad shared his interest in this intriguing matchup.

I hope he (Sean Strickland) loses and I hope he gets knocked out and put unconscious and doesn’t wake up. But regardless, I would always still want to move up to fight him whether he has the belt or not. That would always be a fight that I would say yes to.

Over the years, several notable fighters have sought intriguing matchups, and some have even moved up to higher-weight classes and settled there. One prominent example is Alex Pereira, the UFC light heavyweight champion. Similarly, Muhammad, the UFC welterweight champion, is also interested in pursuing such developments, specifically in a matchup against Strickland.

Currently, a matchup between Strickland and Muhammad is not possible, as Strickland is scheduled to fight Dricus Du Plessis for the championship next month. Despite this, Muhammad remains unfazed by the outcome of that fight. He has stated that he would be willing to face Strickland even if Strickland is not the champion. One possible reason for this is the ongoing animosity between them.

Following this incident, the two have been exchanging insults online. Recently, Muhammad spoke out his mind regarding the ongoing back and forth between him and Strickland. While speaking in an interview with Shakiel Mahjouri, the UFC welterweight champion shared an interesting theory behind Tarzan’s controversial comments online.

He’s literally the definition of Trailer trash, that’s what he is. So, when he says all these dumb stuffs, people need to make them pay for it like… He can’t get attention other than saying dumb stuffs. So, he has to say stupid wild stuff because nobody cares about him without it.
