Over the years, the UFC community has witnessed several brutal injuries among fighters. The severity of many of these injuries is quite high, often forcing fighters to withdraw from their scheduled bouts. Recently, a similar incident occurred with UFC welterweight champion Belal Muhammad. He had to withdraw from his fight against Shavkat Rakhmonov at UFC 310.

Months after recovering from his injury, Muhammad shared some intriguing details about his experience. The UFC welterweight champion was seen on the red carpet at the 16th annual World MMA Awards in Las Vegas. Taking the opportunity, MMA Junkie’s Nolan King interviewed the UFC star. During the interview, he announced that he was returning to the gym and made a surprising revelation.

It got to the point where I was like, ‘Bro, what if you get rid of the toe? What do I need to do to get back in there as quickly as possible? What’s possible?’…

Consequently, Muhammad was scheduled to defend his title for the first time against Shavkat Rakhmonov. However, fate had different plans for the UFC welterweight champion. As such, Muhammad had to pull out from his fight at UFC 310 because of a bone infection.

In his interview with MMA Junkie, Muhammad expressed that he was completely disheartened by how events unfolded. Meanwhile, his opponent, Rakhmonov, is still scheduled to fight at UFC 310. As a result, Irish welterweight prospect Ian Garry has stepped in as a replacement for Muhammad. Interestingly, this matchup has attracted a lot of attention, including from the current UFC welterweight champion.

Belal Muhammad previews the upcoming fight between Ian Garry and Shavkat Rakhmonov

Ian Garry is an emerging Irish prospect in the UFC, maintaining a perfect record within the promotion. Over the years, he has defeated several top fighters. However, he now faces one of his toughest challenges in the form of Shavkat Rakhmonov. Like Garry, Rakhmonov also has an impressive track record in the UFC.

Belal Muhammad, fully aware of the importance of the upcoming matchup between the two welterweight fighters, has shared his insights on the fight. The UFC welterweight champion has provided his analysis of how the bout between Garry and Rakhmonov is likely to unfold.

I keep leaning towards Ian (Garry). When I’m watching this tape and looking at it, I feel like he’s more technical striker, better, faster. Shavkat (Rakhmonov) has that toughness in him and he definitely has a better ground game than Ian, but I think Ian is very smart… Shavkat gets hit a lot. So, if I’m putting money on it, I’m putting on Ian.
