Cris Cyborg is one of the biggest names in women’s MMA around the world. She is the former UFC Featherweight Champion and current Bellator featherweight champion.
Cyborg will be headlining Bellator 259 to defend her title against a familiar face, Leslie Smith. Both of them fought against each other around 5 years ago, where Cris Cyborg knocked Smith out in the very first round of the fight.
Now being a Bellator champion, Cyborg is happy that the promotion is building a talent pool and in her latest interview with MMA Fighting, she says, “Bellator has had a lot of girls sign in the 145-pound division, and this makes me happy signing with Bellator because I don’t have to wait,”
“Scott Coker has been doing amazing and this division is getting better, and I just need to be prepared for the next one. I’m really focused on Leslie, It’s all about Leslie, but for sure, whoever is in the line to fight me, I’m gonna be ready to fight them.”
One of Cyborg’s potential opponents is Kayla Harrison, who is a two times Judo Olympic gold medalist and current PFL Lightweight champion. Harrison’s PFL contract will expire this season and Bellator will surely look forward to signing her.
Cris Cyborg isn’t that concerned about Harrison right now but if Bellator signs her, she’ll look forward to welcoming her inside the cage. Cyborg says, “I don’t worry about her saying she’s the queen,”
“I wake up in the morning, look in the mirror, and say I’m the queen, for myself. What do the fans think, right? What do the fans think? And if she thinks that, man, cool for her.”
“If she ever wants to go back to 145 and the fans want to see this fight then, for sure, it’s going to happen. But my focus is on Leslie, and if she signs with Bellator after the tournament then we can think about this.”
Cris Cyborg is ready to face anyone who comes in her way
The former UFC Featherweight title contender, Megan Anderson is also a free agent now and Cris Cyborg feels she is also going to be a good addition to the Bellator roster.
She added, “I believe she’s already been contacted by Bellator, I don’t know if she’s gonna sign, who specifically has been in contact with Megan Anderson. But I wish the best to her and I hope she finds her place because she’s a real legitimate 145 pounder.”
