Cris Cyborg is not letting retirement plans get in the way of her upcoming title bout at UFC 279.

36-year-old women’s MMA legend Cris Cyborg has been fighting professionally for the last 17 years and the Brazilian is still fighting the highest level of opponents. Cyborg is scheduled to fight Arlene Blencowe at Bellator 279 to defend her featherweight title. Cyborg is a former UFC and Invicta champion.

Her title defense fight against the Australian challenger, Arlene takes place at Honolulu’s Neal S. Blaisdell Arena. Cris currently is undefeated as a Bellator fighter and hopes to keep her record perfect after this weekend’s bout. Ahead of her fight, Cyborg talks to ESPN MMA reporter Marc Raimondi in an exclusive interview.

When asked about her retirement plans, the fighter strongly believes she can continue fighting the best for at least three more years. “I don’t feel in my heart yet about retirement,” said Cyborg when Marc asked her about hanging up the gloves. “It is going to be 17 years [of professional fighting], maybe I can do 20 years. Only God knows.”

Cyborg has a record of 25-2 in her professional MMA career. Cyborg has held the belt in three different promotions including UFC, Invicta, and now Bellator. Cyborg is coming off an early knockout win against Sinead Kavanagh in November at Bellator 271. Cyborg has maintained incredible fitness throughout her career and the fighter wishes to continue that discipline.

“I feel great. I never have any bad injury in my career. I never did one surgery in my career. 17 years and I did not pull out in any fight. I am very disciplined everyday, train everyday, I was born to be an athlete,” said Cyborg in her interview with ESPN MMA.

Cyborg and her opponent Arlene have already fought each other in the past in 2020 and the Brazilian got the better of Arlene as she defeated her via submission in the very second round. How do you rate Cris Cyborg’s career in mixed martial arts?
