At Bellator 194, Ron Leon fighting at 155 lbs had a unique way of opening his fight against Ross Richardson. While the standard glove touch and move-out is now too normalized, Leon decided to go animalistic.
At the start of the bout, Leon leaped forward but not on his feet, instead leaping forward like a panther on the prowl on all fours. This didn’t help him much as he was caught in a counterpunch trying to force a takedown. He would go on to lose the fight via TKO in the second round.
While crawling toward your opponent is not new in MMA, most notably performed by former Light Heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, leaping toward them as if to pounce on them surely is.
