Scott Coker talks about AJ McKee's future in Bellator

AJ McKee is one of Bellator MMA’s biggest stars and the promotion’s boss Scott Coker believes he will be associated with the former featherweight champion for the years to come.

AJ McKee faced a huge blow recently as he took on legendary Patricio Pitbull in a title defense match. McKee had won the belt from Pitbull and soon lost it to the veteran at Bellator 277. McKee lost the fight via unanimous decision which he believed was scored wrongly. Leading up to the fight, McKee openly spoke about a dream move to rival promoters, Ultimate Fighting Championship.

In a recent interview with MMA Fighting, Scott Coker cleared things up about the former champion’s contract and his future with Bellator MMA. “I don’t want to talk about his contract in the public because really it’s something I don’t think is right. And I don’t think legally I could do that anyway,” said Coker talking to MMA Fighting.

$250,000 was what McKee reportedly made for his first title defense against Patricio Pitbull at Bellator 277. The former featherweight champion believes that he deserves to be paid more. Leading up to the Pitbull fight, AJ was undefeated and took pride in being unbeatable. McKee felt his fighting contract needed some revisions.

In an episode of The MMA Hour hosted by Ariel Helwani, AJ spoke about his contract and his wish to earn million dollars per fight. “I had already fought previously for a million dollars. I feel I should never have to see anything under a million dollars again,” said McKee in the interview.

It is worth mentioning this interview was before he lost the title to Patricio. It is now highly doubtful that the fighter can claim lion’s share for his recent fights.
