Last month, the MMA world united in support of Ben Askren during his life-threatening double lung transplant battle. The former UFC star faced complications when his insurance failed, prompting fellow fighters to step up with generous financial aid. Thankfully, Askren has now recovered, and the community’s overwhelming support played a crucial role in his journey.

During recovery, Askren’s condition worsened as his ticker went off four times, meaning he technically died and was revived. He also experienced drastic weight loss, shedding significant mass due to extended hospitalization and the intense toll of surgery. In his latest social media post, Askren shared uplifting news, he’s finally out of the hospital and heading home.

What’s up guys! Day 59, and I’m out! With my beautiful wife, supportive … It that was a long journey, and it’s not over because I still can’t really walk. It was hard. And I said this already in one of the videos, but the support you guys gave me, whether it was sending a GoFundMe, helping my kids… Hopefully, I’m not in this situation again for a really, really, really long time. I’m planning on living a while. So thank you guys again, all of the positive support and the comments online.

Askren’s terrifying health journey began with what seemed like a minor staph infection, but it quickly escalated into severe pneumonia. As the infection worsened, his lungs became critically damaged, forcing doctors to place him in the ICU. The pneumonia progressed so rapidly that his lungs failed entirely, and on June 24, Askren underwent an emergency double lung-transplant

From May 28 to July 2, he was largely unconscious and had no memory of the events during that time. Though his recovery is far from over, Askren expressed deep gratitude to his supporters and the MMA community.

The decorated wrestler emotionally touched upon all the help his family received mentally and financially during this difficult time. Big names such as Dana White, Andrew Tate, Jake Paul, and other former UFC fighters urged fans to give positive vibes for the fighter during his recovery.
