Caleb Williams came out all guns blazing in week three against the Dallas Cowboys. Despite starting as the underdogs, the Chicago Bears won by seventeen points and shocked football fans.
Williams threw four touchdowns and recorded a jaw-dropping 150.30 quarterback rating. A few days later, the NFL selected the second-year quarterback as the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for week 3.

Head coach Ben Johnson broke the news to his young quarterback. Johnson expected Williams to be excited, but his reaction surprised the first-year coach.
I tried to recognize him in front of the group, and he wasn’t having it. Very stoic. He’s already on to the next game.

It may sound great on paper, but in reality, Williams is the first Bears player since WR DJ Moore in Week 5 of 2023 to be crowned the NFC Offensive Player of the Week.
Ben Johnson revealed the secret behind Caleb Williams’ improvement
Johnson’s appointment as Chicago’s new head honcho brought renewed optimism among Bears fans. The Bears’ front office gave him two tasks: make Williams the best quarterback in the franchise’s history and win silverware.

The honeymoon period ended with consecutive defeats to start the 2025 campaign. Vegas did not place its faith in the Bears for the week three fixture, even though the Cowboys were 1-1 and were pushed to the brink by the New York Giants the previous game day.
Williams showed pizzazz and gusto in front of a packed Soldier Field, completing 67.8% of his passes for 298 yards and a PFF grade of 78.1. Speaking with the media on Wednesday, Johnson highlighted the reason behind Williams’ newly acquired confidence.
I think [Caleb] saw when he plays on time, he’s trusting the hitches, and we can be an explosive offense that way. There are a lot of ways that Caleb Williams can hurt you. Like I said, when we have pass protection like we had against the Cowboys, that certainly helps.

The 12th-best-ranked (via ftnfantasy and fourth-best via PFF before the start of the season) offensive line, comprised of Braxton Jones, Drew Dalman, Joe Thuney, Jonah Jackson, and Darnell Wright, has made life easier for Williams. The 23-year-old looked sharp in the pocket, throwing darts to his receivers at regular intervals.
When the offensive line protects like that, it’s a lot easier to play from the pocket. I thought zero sacks. We had a very clean pocket for the most part. That’s a starting point. He’s got the ability to escape and extend and all that. But, man, if we can keep him in there, our playmakers are some dynamic route runners that we can get the ball to in space.

Williams finished his rookie season with 3541 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions. After shaking off the early hiccups, he has finally found a rhythm in the current campaign.
In three games, Williams has amassed 59 completions for 715 yards, 7 touchdowns, and 1 interception. Heavy, in an article, projected the USC graduate and the former Heisman Trophy winner to fulfill his dream of becoming the first Bears quarterback to throw 4000+ yards.
