Ben Roethlisberger has a shocking reaction to Steelers getting DK Metcalf from Seahawks

Ben Roethlisberger wants to come out of retirement and play for his former team the Pittsburgh Steelers because they signed wide receiver DK Metcalf.

The news of the Pittsburgh Steelers trading for DK Metcalf has created a massive excitement among the fans. Even former player Ben Roethlisberger wants a piece of the action.

On Sunday, the Steelers shocked the NFL world by signing Metcalf to a five-year, $150 million deal, a $30 million/year contract. The Steelers sent a second-round pick to the Seattle Seahawks as compensation.

Right after Metcalf penned the deal, former Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger posted a video wearing his old Steelers helmet. He sounded over the moon with signing and presented a proposal to Mike Tomlin.

Coach T [Mike Tomlin], are you kidding me? DK Metcalf on one side, GP [George Pickens] on the other. Muth [Pat Freiermuth] working in the middle! I might need to throw my hat into the ring. If you are looking for a guy, then I might still have a couple of throws in me.

The Steelers fans would jump on the opportunity to witness the 6x Pro Bowler in action, wearing the black and gold in the league once more.

Ben Roethlisberger throwing passes to DK Metcalf is an intriguing prospect but also far-fetched

The Steelers Russell Wilson and Justin Fields experiment is quickly coming to an end. At one point the gamble looked like a masterstroke from Tomlin until the Steelers lost four in a row, and instead of winning the AFC North, they finished second. The trajectory continued in the playoffs after the Ravens defeated them in the wild card round.

The defeat meant the Steelers haven’t won a postseason game since 2016, and the QB during their last playoff success was Roethlisberger. They reached the AFC Championship game only to lose against the Patriots.

Despite the heartbreak, the former first-rounder led the Steelers to three Super Bowl appearances and winning two (2005 and 2008). He will go down as one of the most successful QBs in the Steelers and NFL’s history, but that doesn’t mean he can suddenly come out of retirement and sling passes to DK and George Pickens.

Big Ben last threw a pass in the National Football League during the Steelers’ 42-21 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs during the 2021-22 playoffs. He retired shortly after, and since then the Steelers have gone through four full-time QBs (Mitchell Trubisky, Kenny Pickett, Wilson, and Fields).

Roethlisberger is currently 43, two years older than Aaron Rodgers, but the former Packer who stopped him from winning his third ring is a regular in the league despite missing out on the 2023 season with a torn ACL. The Steelers are looking into Rodgers, but they need to move quickly because they aren’t the only ones aiming to make the 4x league MVP their quarterback.
