There is no doubt that American WTA star Coco Gauff is currently one of the most loved players on the WTA tour. She has already made a name for herself with a Grand Slam title to her name, which she bagged at the US Open last year. Gauff gets praise for her athleticism, grit, and fighting spirit

However, when Ben Shelton was asked for the reason behind Gauff getting so much love, the American had a rather interesting answer. Shelton claimed that his compatriot is charismatic and has a name that people remember

The ATP star gave credit to Gauff’s parents for coming up with a name that turns heads. Shelton then went on to talk about the 20-year-old’s personality. Interestingly, he also claimed that one of the reasons Gauff gets so much love is because she possesses quite a few qualities that resemble a male player.

First of all, her name is Coco. It’s something that sticks in your mind, right? Shout out to Corey and Candi Gauff because I think the name is half of it (smiling). It’s a name you remember. Ben Shelton heaps praise on different and special Coco Gauff

Ben Shelton praised compatriot and good friend Coco Gauff and explained why people loved her. He said that the WTA star is “special and different”. Shelton reckoned that people love the fact that Gauff plays with a lot of passion every time she is on the tennis court.

Shelton and Gauff share a great bond. The two players recently paired up to play mixed doubles at the 2024 US Open Fan Week. The two are currently in action at the 2024 US Open, where they have advanced to the second round. While Shelton beat Dominic Thiem 6-4, 6-2, 6-2, defending champion Gauff took down Varvara Gracheva 6-2, 6-0.
