Ben Shelton is into the fourth round of Wimbledon for the second time in his career. On Saturday (June 5), the American ace went past Hungary’s Marton Fucsovics in straight sets, taking a 1-0 lead in the head-to-head meeting.

During the on-court interview then, the 22-year-old gave a shout-out to parents, his girlfriend Trinity Rodman, and sister Emma Shelton. Emma, Shelton’s “lucky charm” works at Morgan Stanley and would have gone to work on Monday.

It’s not just been me here, I have a great team. My parents are here, my girlfriend’s here. Also, my sister’s here. She’s been here for every match I’ve played. She’s been the lucky charm. But she has work back in the US starting Monday.

It’s at Morgan Stanley she works at. When the crowd heard the company’s name, they started to boo. Even Rodman laughed and booed, while an embarrassed Emma, who was standing beside Rodman covered her face. And Shelton’s reaction was: “Ay ay ay! Come on now.”

She works for Morgan Stanley. If anyone has any connections who can get her an extra couple of days off so we can keep this rolling.

Shelton then shared an Instagram story where Emma could be seen dancing with joy because she got the week off. Morgan too reposted the story and wrote: “thank you MS return flight: CANCELLED“.

Shelton has not yet dropped a set in the tournament. Before knocking out Fucsovics, the 22-year-old knocked out Alex Bolt and Rinky Hijikata.

Ben Shelton says Taylor Fritz is most knowledgeable about his game

Ben Shelton in the press conference after his third-round win was asked which player he thinks is the sharpest and mentally aware of his game. Shelton picked two Americans: Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe.

Everyone is sharp in their own way. Like you know Taylor Fritz has a great tennis mind and he knows what he has to do to win matches and he’s very objective and he knows why he lost matches as soon as he walks off the court. And you can see him talking through it during the match to box. He is just talking through and making adjustments and telling them what’s going on.

Fritz then said that though Tiafoe laughs and jokes around a lot when it comes to his tennis, he is able to make quick decisions and can fool his opponents. Apart from his compatriots, Shelton stated that he is impressed by Roger Federer‘s ability to simplify the game and not make it more complicated.

Shelton had also reached the fourth round of Wimbledon last year but lost to World No.1 Jannik Sinner in straight sets. He will face the three-time Grand Slam champion if both of them progress to the quarterfinals.

The World No.10 has never reached a Grand Slam final. Twice he was defeated in the semifinals: in this year’s Australian Open and in the 2023 US Open by eventual champion Novak Djokovic.

He has two titles under his belt but none he lifted on grass. The 10th seed last won a title in the 2024 US Men’s Clay Court Championships by beating Tiafoe. This season, he reached only one final, in the BMW Open which he lost to home favorite Alexander Zverev.

Fritz, on the other hand, too, secured a spot in the fourth round of the ongoing tournament. He had reached the quarterfinals in 2022 and 2024. Last year, Lorenzo Musetti ended his run in five sets.

He produced his best Grand Slam performance when he reached the final of last year’s US Open, losing in straight sets to Sinner. Fritz bagged two grass-court titles this year- the Boss Open and his third trophy at the Eastbourne International.
