Team World has been dominating the Laver Cup so far as Ben Shelton and Felix Auger-Aliassime made sure to keep the winning streak alive battling through a clash with Hubert Hurkacz and Gael Monfils.

They won 7-5, 6-4, and brought the total for Team World to 10 against Team Europe’s 2 after two days of gameplay in Vancouver. It was an incredible performance by Shelton and Auger Aliassime, where they saved all three points they faced. The duo also depended on their stunning unreturned serves.

In the beginning, at the breakpoint in the second game, Shelton’s forehand caused Hurkacz to drop down on the floor. He was hit by his powerful shot and was hurt in his knees. It proved to be the lefty’s lethal attack. Monfils came to his rescue as he helped his partner by shaking out his legs. Everyone was tense and worried about the Polish star’s health. However, after a few seconds of rest, the Pole was back on foot in no time.

Team captain John McEnroe was left with his mouth wide open, as he couldn’t believe what he just witnessed. Funnily enough, his partner, Auger Aliassime, was also surprised and was in awe of the shot.

That point led the duo to break serve and go on to win the set 7-5. They broke open an extremely close set by winning 12 out of the 13 points. The doubles partners also broke at a crucial point in the second set when they were down 4-3.

When asked about their partnership, Shelton credited his first-time Canadian partner. Auger-Aliassime also only had nice things to say about his American partner. “Ben carried me through the end of that match,” Auger-Aliassime remarked after the match. “It was tough for me to get it done. But with his service, I knew that we could get this done. So happy to share the court with him today.
