A debate that always stirs up before and after a Kansas City Chiefs game is the role of the referees. The Bengals game was no different as several fans accused the officials of helping the reigning Super Bowl champions secure a dramatic late win on Sunday.

There were several calls from the referee in the game that appeared thought-provoking. From missing out on holding calls on Bengals defensive linemen to a late hit on Travis Kelce, nullifying a Patrick Mahomes interception. The Bengals fans highlighted several missed or overlooked moments from the referee.

Former FanSided contributor James Nagle shared a moment in which a Mahomes pass hits Rashee Rice’s hand under a Bengals corner’s coverage. Nagle argued that the officials on the sideline did not throw a flag for defensive pass interference when the Bengals player impeded Rice; rather, he threw it when the ball touched the ground.

Football fans accuse the referee of aiding the Chiefs in their win over the Bengals

The Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase went bonkers in the game after Chiefs corner Trent McDuffie allegedly pulled him down while grabbing around his hip, and he fell awkwardly.

Chase complained to the head official that it was the banned hip drop tackle for which the Bengals should be given an automatic 15 yards, but they showed him a flag for unsportsmanlike conduct. The 3x Pro Bowler, who is waiting for a new contract, was visibly upset with the decision.

Quarterback Joe Burrow had to move him away. The cameras later caught Chase smashing his helmet on the ground in frustration.

Meanwhile, fans on X had to gave their pieces of mind on these referees debacle:

Despite all the fan banter about officials helping the Chiefs, they were trailing by 2 points with just seconds left until the final whistle. However, Harrison Butker dispatched a 51-yard field goal to secure their second win of the season. The game ended 25-26 for the Chiefs.

After the game, the Cincinnati Enquirer’s Kelsey Conway spoke with the NFL’s head referee, Alex Kemp, about Ja’Marr Chase’s unsportsmanlike conduct.

It’s pretty clear cut. It’s just simply abusive language toward a game official. That’s all it was. And there was really no interpretation.
Alex Kem told Conway

When asked whether McDuffie’s challenge was a hip-drop tackle, Kemp replied, that they informed him that they did not feel it was a hip-drop tackle.

Nonetheless, that’s 2 losses from 2 games for the Bengals. In week 1, they went down to a shock defeat to the New England Patriots. Up next, they will face the Washington Commanders, who edged out the New York Giants in their second game.
