Benzema’s continued exclusion from French National team baffles Zidane
Karim Benzema and Zidane
Karim Benzema scored a brace in Real Madrid’s 3-1 win over Celta Vigo in La Liga. The striker could havescored his hat-trick in the final moments of the game but unselfishly fed it onto Asensio’s plate who scored the easiest of tap-ins.
Despite Karim Benzema’s stellar form for Real Madrid both in the league and in Europe the Frenchman continues to be on the sidelines of the French National team for a mistake he made in 2015. Didier Deschampes, the French coach has repeatedly made it clear that Benzema will not feature for the national team atleast under his regime.
Karim Benzema is still facing punishment for his alleged black-mail of his teammate Valbuena in 2015
Karim Benzema is currently Real Madrid’s leading goal scorer in the league with 17 goals and 3rd in the Pichichi race in Spain. He also became the 4th highest Champions league goal scorer when he scored in Real Madrid’s win over Atalanta mid-week. However, the 33-year-old still remains sidelined by France after his alleged role in a plot to blackmail Mathieu Valbuena in 2015.
“Thanks for asking about him, because he is the business,” Zidane told reporters on being asked to comment about Benzema.
“For people who like football Karim is a joy to watch, everyone enjoys watching him and his team mates enjoy playing with him. We just hope he continues like this as he makes the difference, and he knows his team mates are important too.”
“How can you understand it? I don’t understand it, you don’t understand it, there are many people who don’t understand it,” Zidane said after the game. “What he did today was spectacular.”
