Aryna Sabalenka vs. Elena Rybakina: Match Preview
Aryna Sabalenka is bidding to win her fourth title of the season. Before arriving in the German capital, the Belarusian reached the French Open final for the first time only to suffer a three-set defeat to World No.2 Coco Gauff. Sabalenka is the most successful player on the tour this season.

The 27-year-old had played her seventh final of the season at Roland Garros. On the clay swing, except for the Italian Open, she reached the finals of every tournament she played, losing the Stuttgart Open and the French Open, but winning her third title on the surface at the Madrid Open by beating Gauff.
Before the clay swing, Sabalenka progressed to the finals of both the Sunshine Double events. At Indian Wells, she lost to Mirra Andreeva, but later took home the Miami Open trophy by beating home favorite Jessica Pegula.
In Australia this season, Sabalenka lifted the Brisbane International but couldn’t complete her three-peat in the Major there as Madison Keys defeated her in three sets. Sabalenka, in Berlin, is chasing her first grass-court title.
In last year’s Berlin Open, the three-time Grand Slam singles champion handed a walkover to Anna Kalinskaya in the quarterfinals due to an injury and ended up skipping the Wimbledon Championships as well. Sabalenka has never advanced to the final in the grass-court Major, reaching the semifinals twice (in 2021 and 2023).
Elena Rybakina lost to eventual champion Tatjana Maria in the quarterfinals of the Queen’s Club Championships. Before kick-starting her campaign on the grass swing, Rybakina lost to five-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek in the fourth round of the French Open.
But before landing in Paris, Rybakina ended her trophy drought by beating Liudmila Samsonova in the Strasbourg Open final. The Kazakh ace didn’t produce consistent results at the start of the season as she was making deep runs, but also was losing in the early rounds.
Last year, the 26-year-old lifted three titles, the last of which was the Stuttgart Open. Since then, she failed to reach a final until this year’s Strasbourg Open. Before setting up the clash with Sabalenka, Rybakina went past Ashlyn Krueger and Katerina Siniakova.
Aryna Sabalenka vs. Elena Rybakina: Match Prediction
Sabalenka will enter the quarterfinal as the favorite to win. She holds a 6-4 head-to-head record over the 2022 Wimbledon champion but had lost their previous clash in last year’s WTA Finals’ round-robin stage.

Even though she has never won a grass-court title, Sabalenka has won their lone meeting on the surface in the fourth round of the 2021 Wimbledon. Rybakina is the winner of nine singles titles, but only of this she lifted on grass- the 2022 Wimbledon by beating Ons Jabeur. Last year at the Berlin Open, Rybakina handed a walkover to Victoria Azarenka in the quarterfinals.
Match Prediction: Aryna Sabalenka to win in three sets.
