Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves are at a confusing crossroads. Just a year after making the Western Conference Finals, the Wolves are in a weird place after making the bold decision to trade away franchise cornerstone Karl-Anthony Towns in the offseason. As the Wolves continue to handle their turmoil, Edwards reached out to his mentor for some advice – Michael Jordan himself.

According to reports by ESPN’s Mark Jones, Anthony Edwards approached basketball legend Michael Jordan about how to overcome the challenge of taking on double teams. Throughout the season, Edwards has been critical of the defensive approach teams have taken of doubling Edwards as the primary offensive creator for the Timberwolves.

I was told by someone in his circle that three weeks ago Ant reached out to Michael Jordan on advice on how to handle some of the double teams and traps that he’s seeing… He’s been extremely frustrated up until late.

Mark Jones recently revealed

Jordan, who himself faced much of the same heavy defensive attention that Edwards is now receiving would be a great person to mentor the 23-year-old star on how to take tackle such defensive coverage. With the lack of another offensive player to alleviate the load from Edwards like Towns did in the past, teams have taken to the nightly strategy of maintaining pressure on Edwards to force him to pass.

Even so, Anthony Edwards has been in the midst of a historic scoring season, putting up career-best shooting numbers from beyond the arc. However, the Ant-Man’s explosive inside scoring and rim-pressure has certainly taken a dip due to the added defensive attention on him. Perhaps the advice from Michael Jordan would be of great help to Edwards, as the Chicago legend faced similar trials during his formative years in the league.

Although Anthony Edwards approached Michael Jordan to seek guidance for the future, NBA fans couldn’t help but point to the running jokes between the two. Ever since Edwards was drafted, his athletic gifts and in-between scoring game have often been compared to Jordan, with many fans insinuating humorous rumors of the two being related. After the latest reports of Edwards approaching MJ, fans were left in splits about the optics of the situation.

Regardless of what fans think of the situation, approaching Michael Jordan is the right move for Anthony Edwards. His frustrations with being forced to become a passive playmaker instead of an aggressive scorer have been coming to the fore lately.
