Bhuvneshwar Kumar named as ICC’s Player of the Month for March
Bhuvneshawar Kumar
Bhuvneshwar Kumar was named as the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Player of the Month for March. He bagged the award over fellow nominees Rashid Khan and Sean Williams. The pacer had come back to the Indian team in the month of March after a lengthy injury layoff and showed his class in the five T20Is as well as the three ODIs that India played against England.
The win is an Indian’s third consecutive win after Ravichandran Ashwin and Rishabh Pant had got the two previous awards. The Indians were spectacularly consistent in the series against England as they clinched all three series. Although the visitors gave them a good fight across all formats by winning at least one game in each, India showed their class in the end and clinched each series.
ICC announce Bhuvneshwar Kumar as the winner
Bhuvneshwar Kumar was excellent with the new ball for India in the limited overs series against England. He picked up four wickets in the T20Is at an average of 28.75. In the ODIs, he was even better as he picked up six wickets in the three matches at an average of 22.50. His wickets in the Powerplay and at the death proved to be instrumental in turning matches in favor of the hosts even as England came close to winning games.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s fellow nominees were Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan who was on song in the series against Zimbabwe. Similarly, the latter’s skipper Sean Williams waged a lone battle with the bat with some assured hitting on difficult pitches to bat on. However, in the end it was the Indian pacer’s stupendous comeback that got the nod from the voters.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar is currently playing in the IPL for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
