Big Bash League: “Horrible and Embarrassing” – Shane Warne slams wrong umpiring decisions

The 10th edition of the Big Bash League is currently underway Down Under and with several rule changes such as the Bash Boost, Power Surge and X-Factor Player, the tournament promised a plethora of thrills and spills. While the same has been true to an extent, the poor standard of umpiring and the absence of the Decision Review System (DRS) has taken some bit of sheen away from the tournament.
A lot of clear and obvious errors have been made by the umpires with regard to LBW calls over the course of this season. Today’s match between the Adelaide Strikers and Perth Scorchers witnessed two such blatant errors. Strikers’ Rashid Khan was trapped in front by a Jhye Richardson delivery that could have gone on to hit the leg-stump but the umpire gave it not out. In the same over, Matthew Short was given out when he had clearly got bat on ball and glanced it for four.
Shane Warne unhappy with umpiring standard
Following the poor umpiring decisions in the match between the Strikers and the Scorchers, former Australian cricketer Shane Warne took to Twitter to express his dissatisfaction with the standard of umpiring in the tournament. The leggie further called for DRS to be introduced in the BBL immediately.
His Tweet read, “I’m sorry but who is in charge of the umpires in Australia ? Every game we see horrible mistakes & it’s embarrassing for the BBL completion! The big bash is a wonderful tournament but it’s fast becoming a joke and could ruin players careers. Please can we have DRS immediately!“
It does seem like it is high team the Big Bash League, one of the most exciting T20 tournaments in the world, brings in DRS as has been done by various other leagues around the world.
