Big Bash League: WATCH – Mujeeb Ur Rahman foxes Hobart Hurricanes to claim five-wicket haul

Hobart Hurricanes and Brisbane Heat played out a thrilling Big Bash League encounter for the ages today. In a match with a plethora of twists and turns, the Hurricanes held their nerve to clinch a one-run win. After reducing the Hobart franchise to just 150 runs, Heat found themselves in deep trouble at 8/3 in their chase. With the chase seeming to go nowhere, James Bazley took the initiative to try and win it for his side.

However, despite beginning the last over bowled by Scott Boland with just 7 runs required, Heat fell agonizingly short of the target. 2 runs were required off the last ball and Mark Steketee was on strike. The latter hit one straight to the short cover fielder and set off for a run but the throw by Colin Ingram found him short of the crease because of the fact that he had raised his bat while diving meaning the bat was in the air while the ball hit the stumps. With the win, the Hurricanes moved to the third spot on the table.

Hurricanes have no clue to wily Mujeeb

Earlier, in the first innings, the Hurricanes’ batsmen had no clue to Afghani spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman‘s bowling. The 19-year-old bowled a terrific spell of tight and tricky bowling at the Gabba. Four batsmen – Ben McDermott, Dawid Malan, Will Parker and Scott Boland found their stumps dislodged. The other wicket was a caught-and-bowled dismissal of Keemo Paul who was outfoxed by a quicker delivery.

Mujeeb ended with figures of 5-15 which was his best ever in T20 history as well as the best ever figures for a Brisbane Heat bowler in BBL history. Despite his incredible performance, Heat fell short by a solitary run in the humdinger of a match. They now find themselves in the 6th spot on the table with just 1 win from 5 matches.
