Big setback for Roland-Garros semifinalist Marin Cilic as he withdraws from Wimbledon, tests positive for Covid-19

Just 1 day before his first-round match at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships, the former World No.3 Marin Cilic has withdrawn from the grass-court tournament. In this case, Covid-19 appears to be the barrier between the Croatian and the title as he tested positive for it.
In 2017, Cilic lost to Roger Federer in the Wimbledon final and considering his current form, he appeared ready for yet another strong showing here. However, that will not be possible for the 2014 US Open champion who was slated to take on World No. 55 Mackenzie McDonald in the first round of the Championships on Tuesday.

The World No.17 Marin Cilic took to his Instagram to break the news and he captioned his post with, “Hey guys, I am sad to share that I tested positive for COVID. I have been self-isolating and was hopeful I would be ready but unfortunately, I am still feeling unwell & unable to compete at my best. I am heartbroken to be missing @Wimbledon & to see my grass season end this way. Looking forward to competing again next year!”
The 123rd-ranked Portuguese player Nuno Borges will take Cilic’s position in the draw, the All England Club confirmed on Monday. Cilic had just advanced to the French Open semifinals earlier in the month. With Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Andy Murray already having made a full set of semifinal appearances at each of the four major championships, he became the fifth active man to do so.
